Regent Seven Seas Explorer
Billed as the most luxurious cruise ship ever built, the Explorer does not disappoint. The Regent suite is 3,875 sq. ft., which is bigger than my houses and comes with a Picasso original painting, an in-suite spa, a $100,000 bed in the master bedroom, 2 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms and a private car & guide for going ashore. This is beyond question the largest and most luxurious suite at sea.
This ship offers a wide variety of suites ranging from 415 to 2,108 sq. ft. that will please any VIP. The majority of accommodations are suites ranging in size from 308 to 464 sq. ft. which are some of the largest “standard accommodations” at sea today. They all have balconies, king size slumber beds, walk-in closets, personalized mini bar set-ups, interactive flat-screen TVs and L’Occitane bathroom amenities. All of these suites have the total feel of luxury!
Overall this ship feels very, very spacious with high ceilings and wide hallways. There is more than ample deck and pool space. Everywhere you go you think you are on a ship of maybe 1,500 not 750.
The décor befits a true luxury ship with crystal chandeliers even in the cabin and hallways. Twin grand winding stair cases will welcome your guests as they embark the ship just to set the tone. This ship is truly elegant with an impressive art collection that is a labor of love for the Chairman of the Board. Truly unique is the leather floor of the library. The main showroom feels more like a European opera house than a shipboard theater. The extensive use of Italian marble and stone are done to perfect effect throughout the ship. Yes she is elegant.
Dining on Regent ships has always been special and dinner is an awaited event. The Explorer doesn’t disappoint with 7 dining options ranging from the opulent main dining room, a steak house, a French restaurant, as well as a Pacific Rim theme dining option. There are indoor and indoor/outdoor dining options and all of the dining venues are really spacious with plenty of room around your table, many with an ocean view.
There are 7 bars and lounges. My personal favorite is the Explorers lounge which is by the entrance to the dining room and across from the Casino. This very rich clubby room has a very comfortable feel to it. The forward facing Observation Lounge is a great place during the days at sea for just watching the world go by. While at night she offers live music and dancing.
The Canyon Ranch Spa also has its own infinity pool for relaxing. Of course there is a very nice and large gym as well as the mandatory gift shops.
This is certainly Regent’s flagship as well as being one of the finest ships at sea. What makes this ship, as well as all Regent’s ships, even more unique is what is included in the price: shore excursions, free dining in the specialty restaurants, fine wines and open bar (most brands included), in suite mini stocked with your favorite items, prepaid gratuities for all of the ship’s crew, free Wi-Fi, free meeting space and complimentary A/V equipment and technicians.
You will really be surprised how reasonable Regent’s rates are and that going 5 Star Super deluxe is very affordable.
